Recognition of Service

After an extended period of uncertainty, pain, and lows, this week has certainly been one to remember ending on a high. The news is out...

I am extremely proud to be granted state honours by Her Majesty The Queen, in the annual Birthday Honours List. I look forward to receiving my medal at Buckingham Palace which be a treasured and lasting memory.

Whilst the citation states that many people in the Royal Navy have been positively impacted by my training, development, and coaching, it is not cliche to say I also believe this award reflects well on the many great people who have supported me and the quality of the teams I've been privaleged to lead and train over the years.

Today is the very last day of my 42 years of service to Queen and Country, so it is emotional to finally cut the umbilical, however receiving this award from Her Majesty is an absolute honour.

Finally, to acknowledge that I have been totally overwhelmed by the messages of congratulations flooding in from over the world, which are most appreciated. I'm humbled there's so many that I haven't been able to respond to all of them yet, but I appreciate everyone who took the time to message me at this very important stage of my life.

Now, on to the next adventure.
